AeroPress® Guide

AeroPress® Guide

Brewing coffee with an AeroPress® is a portable and straightforward method that can produce a great cup. The AeroPress® is highly versatile, so you can adjust coffee-to-water ratios, steep times, and grind sizes to tailor your brew to your liking.

What you will need:

A burr grinder:

     Fancy Grinder

     Mid Level Grinder

     Basic Level Grinder

A Scale:

     Fancy Scale

     Basic Kitchen Scale

An AeroPress®:

     Small AeroPress®

     AeroPress® XL

An electric kettle - I've had good luck with this one.

     Electric Kettle

Lets get into it

- I like to use the inverted method. Which is where you will extend the plunger all the way out and flip it upside down on to the scale. Open side facing up.

- Start off by placing the AeroPress® onto the scale inverted - and zero the scale.

- Similar to our Chemex® method - you can use the same (3) ratios.

1:15 - Going to be a bold cup

     1:16 - Going to be a medium-bold cup

     1:17 - Going to be a more medium-light cup

- Grind some coffee to a medium course grind.

- Add in the ground coffee to the top of the AeroPress®.

- Zero the scale and do an initial bloom pour to bubble off any CO2 leftover from roasting. Same as our Chemex® method - let it bloom for 30-45 seconds. Typically you want to keep the temperature of the water between 195-205 degrees F.

- Now taking into account how much coffee you added, plus what coffee-to-water ratio you prefer. Finish off the pour by adding the correct amount of water to reach your goal weight.

- Using the stir stick that comes with the AeroPress® - agitate the coffee using vertical and horizonal movements to go against the grain.

- Let the coffee steep for 1-2 minutes.

- While the coffee steeps, rinse the filter with some hot water from your kettle.

- Place the filter in the housing and attach the housing to the AeroPress®.

- Carefully flip the AeroPress® over onto a mug.

- Slowly press the plunger down, applying steady pressure. The press should take about 20-30 seconds. You’ll know you’re done when you hear a hissing sound.

- AeroPress® coffee can be strong, so you can dilute it with a bit of hot water if you prefer a milder cup.

- Enjoy!
